Attention fashionistas! I need your help finding prom dress for my girl.

Heeeeeelp! Please. My sixteen year-old daughter just got asked to prom by a senior. Now because it's not her prom (she's a junior), she's thinking shorter-length dress. I associate prom with full-length gown--but she does have a point. (Not to mention more sense of fashion than I do.)

So. I welcome any thoughts you have on this. And if you really wanna get involved in our PROM DRESS PROCESS--email me (jackie at VanillaSpoons dot com) links to fabulous dresses. If I receive at least a couple submissions, I'll probably do a post similar to the ugliest fashion finds exhibit.

[By the way. It might be helpful to know that the girl we must dress is 5'6, with lovely figure and medium-length dark brown hair.]

First off, scary! I dread the day I have to think about sending my little gal off to a dance with a boy... And second, I can only imagine the discussions we'll regarding the dress. Me and my 6 year old already butt heads over what she wears!

We just went to a high school function to what my nephew perform and there were a bunch of those long, drapey style dresses, similar to the second one. They looked quite fashionable without being so overtly sexy. I especially liked one that had the thin straps that came out in a V from the cleavage area and then over the shoulders. I'll try to find an image.

how fun! i'm really into grey dresses at the moment because it's a little different and sophisticated.

something like this from an etsy seller. very young and fun yet sophisticated.

I have to say... loving that 2nd one. I think it's nice without being too old (read: sexy) for a 16 year old. I'm with Erin, my 2 year old and I already butt heads about wardrobe...can't imagine what it will be like when she's 16. Yikes!

wow...her stats were identical to mine as a high schooler! i went with short length my junior year and a full length my senior year. i think she should keep it fun and age appropriate and the tutu one seems PERFECT.

i like the long one, but maybe it is too old of a style for her. the top one is SHORT, but maybe i am just jealous because i can't wear tiny short dresses. humph. this is tough! i am ready to go shopping and find the one! hahahahaha

That's an exciting milestone. Both dresses are lovely, but the second on really stands out. Thanks so much for visiting me and for your kind comment!

Oh my, I can't believe that day will come. I do agree with the shorter dress though.

I'm with Maegan. I love them both but the shorter one is so fun and young...I wore a short dress to my junior prom and a long one to my senior prom...but I had fun in both and loved them both (and they were SO different). you know, if you feel good in a dress it's fabulous:)

Ooh! I LOVE the second one, but I see what she means about going short since she's only a junior.

I'll scour around and see what I can find!

Do you guys have a specific budget in mind?

I like long for prom, but the ballerina in me is obsessed with that first dress!

I think she's a guest and it shouldn't matter. She should wear what she wants. But, that said, that first one would really draw A LOT of attention, so while it's very cute, that might not be what she wants if she doesn't want to stand out. Keep looking and remember you don't have to look just for prom dresses. Those are usually overpriced because they know the girls are coming for prom dresses. So exciting for a 16-year old--best of luck!

Eek! Yes, definitely a shorter dress.

I went to prom as a freshman (with a junior) and wore a short dress, because it wasn't my prom.

Then for junior and senior year, I wore long ones.

I'm going to email you some picks now!! Love this hunt!
